We shall defeat Pharoah against us, Adeleke assures PDP members

Vows to reopen LG secretariats, end power tussleOsun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said that his administration and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state would defeat the Pharaoh facing the state and get its dues back.

The governor had gone on vacation to the USA, during which he attended his nephew’s (Davido) wedding in Miami before returning to the State on Thursday.

The governor, who spoke, yesterday, at a reception held in his honour by members of the PDP at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo, after his return from vacation to the United States (U.S.) where he also attended his nephew’s (Davido) wedding in Miami, said he had transformed the state from a state of pity to that of confidence and prosperity and would not allow anyone to reverse the trend.

He also charged party members and residents of the state to participate en masse in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration in a bid to retain the party in government next year.

The governor also said that his administration would ensure that the council secretariats in the state are reopened and start operating.

Adeleke, who declared that he was being confronted by strong forces that he likened to the Biblical Pharaoh, said some people were still in shock over the achievements of his administration.

Also speaking, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, urged party members not to despair over the defection of some party members, saying that PDP’s greatest strength in the state is the masses, who have seen the transformational works of the Adeleke-led administration.

Earlier, the party Chairman, Sunday Bisi, reiterated the need for party members to mobilise people for the ongoing voter registration.

It has become imperative that I address you directly as my compatriots because you have been there with me since the early days when I joined politics and ran for the 2023 gubernatorial elections till today,” he wrote.

You might have heard the news of my resignation from the PDP. I owe you a moral duty to address you directly although I have discussed this issue with some of you personally, I thought you were the first to know formally.

I will arrange and fix a date to invite you as a Political Family to discuss further on the Reasons that necessitated my resignation and a collective resolution be taken,” he stated.

Gen. Sura’s resignation from the PDP has further depleted the party following a wave of defections that have hit the party which include the recent defection of Chief Letep Dabang who was the Director General of the Mutfwang/Piyo Campaign Organization in the 2023 elections, who left the party to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), last month.

BREAKING: “Vote buyers are criminals in disguise,” – Peter Obi urges Nigerians to get PVC

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to take advantage of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

INEC on Monday commenced the nationwide CVR exercise, which includes online pre-registration, ahead of the forthcoming off-cycle elections in Anambra, Osun and Ekiti States, as well as the 2027 general elections

In a statement shared on his social media handle titled “PVC is the bridge to a New Nigeria”, Obi urged Nigerians, both young and old, to register and ensure they are eligible to vote.

His statement reads, “The future of our dear nation is in your hands. The greatest strength of democracy is in the voter’s card. Your PVC is the voice of the voiceless, the shield of the weak, and the weapon of the poor for a better life against injustice and bad leadershiappeal to every Nigerian: Get organised and make election rigging difficult. Go out, register, collect your PVC, and hold it firmly as your bridge to a new Nigeria.

Let us know this: those who buy votes are not offering you charity; they only invest in their own corruption. They buy votes so that they can buy their way into our treasury to steal public money.

When they get into that office, they will loot the funds that should have been used to build schools, hospitals or provide good jobs. Such people are not leaders, they are criminals in disguise. They are no better than killers, armed robbers, and kidnappers, because they commit the same crime of destruction.

To those who sell their votes, you are not just selling an election, you are selling the very opportunities that would have lifted you and your family out of poverty.

You are selling the schools that your children should have attended, the hospitals that should save your loved ones and the jobs that would have given you dignity and a better life. Those who buy your vote are only buying it to make a profit from the seat of power, not to serve you.

The power to change this country is in your hands, the looters will only loot when we give them the opportunity. Your vote counts, if it doesn’t, they would not be desperately buying that vote.”

The former governor stated that every Nigerian must rise and take responsibility for building the nation.

Peter Obi added that “Our democracy is at stake. That is why I urge every eligible Nigerian to register, collect, and safeguard your PVC, and when the time comes, use it wisely. Vote for leaders of competence, character, capacity, and compassion.

Leaders who will put you first. Do not be intimidated, do not be deceived, and do not be bought.”

He urged everyone to stand together and prove that Nigeria belongs to the people, not to those who trade the future for their selfish gain.

Register to vote, because a new Nigeria starts with you,” Peter Obi concluded.

BREAKING: Obi slams FG over 70% crash in foreign investments, faults weak leadership

The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed concern over Nigeria’s dwindling Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), blaming it on poor leadership, weak governance, and uncoordinated reforms.

He noted that Nigeria’s poor performance in key governance indicators, such as the rule of law, regulatory quality, government effectiveness, and voice and accountability, undermines the country’s attractiveness to sustainable foreign capital.

In a statement on Friday, Obi criticised the Federal Government’s frequent overseas trips in search of investment, describing them as “global galivanting” that fails to address the root causes of investor apathy.

He noted that Nigeria’s poor performance in key governance indicators, such as the rule of law, regulatory quality, government effectiveness, and voice and accountability, undermines the country’s attractiveness to sustainable foreign capital.

Citing data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Obi revealed that FDI fell by about 70% in the first quarter of 2025, dropping to $126.29 million from $421.8 million recorded in the fourth quarter of 2024.

He added that of the total $5.64 billion capital imported in Q1 2025, FDI made up just 2.24%, down from 8.2% in the previous quarter.

Disturbingly, about 90% of the imported capital went into speculative money market instruments, which have little to no impact on industrial growth or job creation.

This ‘hot money’ can leave the economy just as quickly as it came in,” he warned.

Obi further pointed out that investment in the manufacturing sector declined by 32.1%, falling to $129.92 million in Q1 2025 from $191.92 million in the same period of 2023—an indicator of declining investor trust in the government’s economic direction.

While global FDI to Africa rose by 75% to $97 billion in 2024, Nigeria attracted only $1.08 billion—about 1% of the continent’s total and a 42% drop from 2023.

In contrast, Egypt led the continent with $46.58 billion, followed by Ethiopia, Côte d’Ivoire, Mozambique, Uganda, DR Congo, South Africa, Namibia, Senegal, Guinea, and Morocco.

After a 42% drop in FDI between 2023 and 2024, Nigeria has now suffered another 75% decline between Q4 2024 and Q1 2025.

We cannot achieve sustainable growth and development with ineffective leadership and weak governance,” Obi stressed.

PHOTOS: VDM leads candle light procession in Anambra for slain ‘Fish Magnet

A social media influencer, Martins Otse, popularly known as “VeryDarkMan”,  on Tuesday, led a candlelight procession march in Awka, the Anambra State capital, for the slain businessman, Ifesinachi Onyekesi (popularly known as “Fish Magnet”).

Fish Magnet was recently kidnapped and murdered by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in the state.

Recall that the prominent fish dealer and Managing Director of Fish Magnet Outlet, was abducted at his residence in Ezinifite village, Okpuno, in Awka South Local Government Area of the state on Saturday, July 27.

The assailants shot him in the leg and forcefully whisked him away to an unknown destination, a journey he never returned alive.

The unfortunate incident and gruesome murder of Fish Magnet, who was an only son to an APGA women leader, attracted condemnation from good-spirited individuals and netizens, including “VeryDarkMan”, who publicly mourned his demise and organised a candlelight procession for him in Anambra.

VeryDarkMan, who mobilised hundreds of youths, and marched the streets of the Awka, starting from Aroma junction chantes songs that depicted anger against insecurity in the country.

The unfortunate incident and gruesome murder of Fish Magnet, who was an only son to an APGA women leader, attracted condemnation from good-spirited individuals and netizens, including “VeryDarkMan”, who publicly mourned his demise and organised a candlelight procession for him in Anambra.

Speaking during the procession, VDM criticised security breaches in Anambra and other parts of Nigeria, which he said, is as a result of failure on the part of security operatives.

It is sad that ‘Fish Magnet’ was kidnapped and later killed without any trace. Insecurity is not peculiar to Anambra. It is so in many parts of Nigeria. But the case of ‘Fish Magnet’ is too sad, because, the economy of Nigeria does not favour youths.

‘Fish Magnet’ was able to eke a living on his own, by setting up a peculiar business outfit that made him popular.

Sadly, this young man, who should be protected was gruesomely killed. This will discourage other youths that would ordinarily strive towards enterprise. This is sad, and should be condemned

VeryDarkMan further berated government at all levels, saying that they do not do enough to promote security of lives and property.

He pleaded with Anambra people, especially Awka residents to keep on patronising Fish Barbecue, owned by the Fish Magnet, so that the business will not die with the young owner.

Government is not doing enough to promote security the way it should. Killer herdsmen and terrorists in the bush carry weapons and bullets more powerful than those of the police. How could we survive in an environment like that?

“Government must be seen to be priotising security of lives and property of the people. Killings are much in our country, and we are not happy about it,” he added.

Benue Assembly suspends five members

Recall that, the Chairman of the Local Government, Security and Chieftaincy Affairs Terna Shimawua, alongside the members of the committee were mandated by the house to investigate alleged misappropriation of local government funds and abuse of office by the chairman Otukpo Local Government, Maxwell Ogiri.

During the presentation of the report on the floor of the house, the chairman and members of the committee deviated from the real findings.

The House, dissatisfied with the report, constituted a five-member ad-hoc committee headed by Ipusu to investigate further and uncover the actual situation.

Accordingly, the house suspended the members of the entire committee for three sittings for covering the truth on the misappropriation, abuse of office and closure of the Legislative Chamber by the Otukpo Local Government Chairman to protect him from punishment.

Wike finally reveals conditions for peace in PDP

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has given final conditions that will make peace return to the Peoples Democratic Party.

The Minister insisted that the South-South zonal congress of the party must stand.

Wike stated this on Monday while fielding questions during his monthly media parley in Abuja.

According to the Minister, the Court allowed for the congress to hold, saying there’s nothing a person could do about it.

He said: “Our South-South zonal congress that was held must be upheld. There’s no doubt, no two words about it.

Now, when we were doing our South-South congress, the Acting National Chairman claimed that the PDP governors were not in support of the National Congress. Where are the PDP governors now? Our congress was held in Calabar and there’s nothing anybody can tell us.”

If they want another round of passes, so be it. Our congress held and Chief Daniel Orbi emerged as the National Vice Chairman of the congress. And the Court allowed for the congress to hold.”
