The market President, Alhaji Muntaka Isa, disclosed this on Wednesday while addressing newsmen during an inspection visit to the market.

He regretted that the rejection tarnished the image and reputation of the popular grains market.

He said the management of the market had adopted measures to tackle food adulteration by traders in the market.

He warned that the management would sanction the perpetrators to protect the reputation of the market.

“We shall not fold our arms and watch a few selfish and unpatriotic individuals tarnish the good image and reputation of our market, built over the years,” he said.

In his remarks, the chairman of the market’s Board of Trustees, Alhaji Abdullahi Maidoya, said the management had constituted a committee to identify and prosecute the culprits.

Maidoya also said they would seek the intervention of government agencies, including the Federal Ministries of Trade and Investment, Police Affairs, Health and Justice to address the menace.

“We have established a quality control committee to work with government agencies and we have launched an enlightenment and mobilisation campaign to educate traders on the dangers of food adulteration,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Produce Special Service, Kano branch, Hajiya Fatima Yakubu, in her remarks, said the agency was working to tackle food adulteration.

He decried the upward trend in food adulteration cases among food-produce merchants.

“The way and manner food merchants get involved in food adulteration is very alarming. I am appealing to food commodity merchants to please, as a matter of urgency, desist from this negative conduct. The agency will not relent in fighting the ugly trend,” she warned.

Olatunji, who played a 58-minute cameo for Lars Friis’ side at the epet Arena, helped his team secure a commanding 3-0 victory over Austrian giants RB Salzburg.

The Nigerian forward demonstrated excellent awareness in the box, latching onto a precise pass from Filip Panák before firing a first-time shot into the left corner to extend Slavia Prague’s lead.

Following his goal, Olatunji lifted his jersey to reveal a white undershirt with the bold message: “I am a Chosen, who are you?”—a reference to the popular phrase associated with the Nigerian “Chosen” church.

The “Chosen” trend has gained significant attention in Nigeria, originating from the church, which is renowned for claims of miracles and divine interventions.

Despite skepticism from some sections of society, members of the church frequently proclaim the phrase “I am a Chosen, who are you?” when seeking divine help in difficult situations.

Olatunji is not the first footballer to identify with the movement. Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface has also been linked to the church, with photos surfacing of him during his early days as a member of the congregation.

The 25-year-old’s goal celebration has caught attention on social media, adding more interest to the “Chosen” trend that is becoming popular in Nigerian football.

Labour Party Accuses Obi, Yesufu, Afenifere Leaders Of Fraud

Obasempire reports that the National Working Committee of the Labour Party, headed by Julius Abure, has urged the National Security Adviser and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to probe Aisha Yesufu, Pastor Itua Ighodalo, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and Afenifere leaders for alleged misappropriation of funds from the 2023 presidential campaign.

This appeal was made by the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, during a press conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Wednesday.

Arabambi voiced concern over recent remarks by Yesufu, who defended herself against claims of involvement in the alleged mismanagement of 2023 campaign funds.

The party accuses Yesufu, Pastor Ighodalo, and other collaborators of mishandling and diverting over N12bn and $15m in donations meant for the Labour Party’s campaign.

Arabambi dismissed Yesufu’s denials as attempts to conceal the purported financial wrongdoing and criticized her statements as an affront to the party’s leadership.

He also charged Yesufu and her associates with operating under Obi’s influence, labeling him a “political merchant” intent on defrauding the party.

Furthermore, Arabambi implicated Afenifere leaders, including Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun, and Sola Ebiseni, accusing them of holding over N600m in private accounts associated with Afenifere.

He alleged that these individuals were employed by Obi to commit fraud and siphon funds from the Labour Party’s presidential campaign.

“The trio of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun, and Sola Ebiseni were involved in financial infractions totaling over ₦600m, which they have kept in private accounts and Afenifere accounts,” Arabambi stated. “Peter Obi allegedly hired Aisha Yesufu, Pastor Itua Ighodalo, and this faction of Afenifere to commit looting, criminal conspiracy, and diversion of funds from the Labour Party’s presidential campaign while presenting themselves as elder statesmen.”

Arabambi highlighted the party’s commitment to transparency and accountability and called for an investigation into all bank accounts associated with the alleged misconduct.

He  urged a thorough investigation into the accounts linked to  Adebanjo, Osuntokun, and Ebiseni to ascertain the extent of Afenifere’s involvement in the alleged fraud.

The National Coordinator of the Obedient Movement, Dr. Yunisa Tanko, described the allegations as baseless and false.

“The allegations are unfounded. I was present when Aisha Yesufu provided the audited account of the presidential campaign fund, and the truth is that no money is missing from the Labour Party’s accounts,” Dr. Tanko stated in a phone conversation with our correspondent.

The Deputy Leader of Afenifere, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, when contacted, said he was not familiar with the allegations. “I have just seen the lengthy press statement you are referring to. I have not read it, but if Afenifere needs to respond later, we will certainly do so,” Olaitan said.

Lagos Court Threatens Subpoenas For Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Others

Obasempire reports that a Coroner’s Court in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State has warned it may issue subpoenas to crucial witnesses who have failed to attend the ongoing investigation into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.

Magistrate T. A. Sotobi had approved alternative service methods for the witnesses after granting Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, permission to serve witness summons via a prominent national newspaper and social media.

The individuals include Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley; Samson Eletu, also known as Sam Larry; Mohbad’s sister-in-law Karimot Ogunbayo; Mohbad’s lawyer Oluwasanmi Falade; the nurse who treated the deceased, Feyisayo Ogedengbe; and the driver who transported him to the hospital, Fidelis Esanbor.

On Wednesday, the head of the Aloba family’s legal team, Taiwo Odumosu, informed our correspondent that Mohbad’s associate, Boluwatife Adeyemo, also known as Darosha, was the only significant witness present in court.

Odumosu noted that the magistrate had contemplated issuing subpoenas if the other witnesses failed to appear at the next court session.

He said, “Today’s sitting was to continue with the examination of witnesses to know what happened to Mohbad and how he died. So, among all the key witnesses invited and served through substituted means, only Darosha was in court.

“Meanwhile, the magistrate said she would issue another witness summons one last time chance. She said if they fail to appear on the next adjourned date, they will be subpoenaed.”

Lagos Indigenes: Igbos Not Our Issue; Outsider Yorubas We Reject

Obasempire reports that a collective of native Lagosians, operating under the De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, has announced that while they have no issues with Igbo residents, they do oppose Yoruba individuals from other Southwest states attempting to seize Lagos unfairly.

Read more: Black Stars Likely To Host AFCON Qualifiers In Nigeria

The President of the group, Miftah Bolaji Are, conveyed this message during a visit to Ikorodu on Tuesday.

Are emphasized that the state’s natives would no longer endure those who exploit them under the pretense of being locals.

“We have no problem with Igbo. It is the South Westerners that are our problem. I have asked them, if you say Igbo want to take over Lagos, are the Igbo the ones who take people’s land and award the same to themselves? Are they Igbo who approve C-of-Os for those lands given out to other non-indigenes? So, I told them that they cannot send Igbo packing because Igbo are not our problem but the South Westerners who want to capture Lagos unjustiably,” he was quoted as saying by Vanguard.

An ex- Minister of Communications, Maj. Gen. Tajudeen Olanrewaju (retd), who also spoke at the meeting decried that most of the key political offices in Lagos are often held by non-indigenes.

He lamented that some non-indigenes hold double indigeneship and use Lagos as stepping stones, describing it as betrayal.

Olanrewaju said: “The objective of resident non-indigenes is to capture Lagos State, politically and deny the indigenous people their constitutional rights and privileges. How do you explain the situations when the holders of six important political offices, most often, are held by non-indigenes?

“The ruling elite and leadership in Lagos State government, by holding on to the most important political positions, control the political administration and the state’s resources, and use the state to climb the political ladders at the expense of the indigenes.

“Important decisions, political selection and constitutional entitlements are allocated on this basis of inequality and self interests. We can give examples of non-indigenes, who proudly hold double indigeneship and use Lagos State as stepping stones. How do they achieve it? They achieve it through false declaration because they are never confirmed to be known by families they claimed to come from in Lagos State.”

Continuing, Olanrewaju said: “It is a betrayal, wrongful representation and lack of respect for Lagos State indigenes when the contesting parties nominate candidates who have two states of origin for the state. This attitude of deliberate imposition makes it possible for Senator Solomon Adeola a.k.a. Omo West/Yayi to use Lagos slot to the Senate at the National Assembly. He is currently representing Ogun State (West) in the Senate. This is unhealthy.

“The state deserves a full-time Minister as expressed in the Constitution and not a Minister of State that we have. De Renaissance Patriots Foundation is not against these appointees in their personal capacity, but we feel we should point out the serious flaws that deny the state indigenes of their rights and privileges.”

Black Stars Likely To Host AFCON Qualifiers In Nigeria

Obasempire reports that Ghana’s Black Stars are expected to play their remaining 2025 Africa Cup of Nations home qualifiers in Nigeria, according to various reports from the West African nation.

This follows the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) refusal to approve their home venue, the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

CAF’s inspection team found the stadium inadequate for competitive matches, citing major structural issues such as poor drainage, uneven playing surfaces, and inconsistent grass coverage.

As other Ghanaian venues like the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadiums also failed to meet CAF’s requirements, the country is left without a suitable stadium for their upcoming qualifiers.

CAF has instructed Ghana to find an alternative venue for the crucial Matchday three and four fixtures in October outside the country.

The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, has emerged as the most likely option due to its proximity.
