Nigeria Entertainment NewsI Wish I Had Signed Simi, Teni – Don Jazzy

Veteran music executive and Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, has expressed regret over his decision not to sign some artists.

He also disclosed that he once had the chance to sign superstar Davido but chose not to, believing Davido was destined for greatness regardless.

Reflecting on his near miss with rapper Falz, Don Jazzy said a deal almost materialised but didn’t go through.

Speaking further, he explained that he would have also signed Wizkid, but the singer was already under the management of another executive at the time.

Don Jazzy concluded by acknowledging the reality of the industry: “You can’t sign everybody, no matter how talented they are.”

He said, “I like Simi. I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I like Teni. I wish I did. I had the opportunity for Davido, obviously, but I didn’t because I kind of figured that he would be fine. To Wizkid, obviously, I couldn’t because Banky got to him first. That would have been amazing. Falz, I love his work, and we almost actually had a deal. Well, it didn’t work out. But then at the end of the day, you cannot sign everybody.”

‘I Told My Father To Help Me Apologize To Him, I Am Wise Now’ – Bello El-Rufai Regrets Criticizing Jonathan

The lawmaker representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Bello El-Ruafi, has expressed regret for criticising the administration of former President, Goodluck Jonathan.

Obasemprire reports that Bello, son of former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, in an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, admitted that he was naive in his criticism of Jonathan.

He said that his naivety prevented him from realising that there was governance in the country during Jonathan’s administration.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker noted that he realised his naivety in criticising Jonathan after his father told him about going to visit Jonathan for political talks.

He said, “I visited my father after I became a member and I saw him wearing a polo shirt and I said ‘where are you going?’ And he said he was going to see President Jonathan, and I paused because when I was naive or when I thought ego or gratification mattered, I used to be very active in criticising President Jonathan.

I even forgot in my naivety as many young people do, that we had governance then and I found my father saying that he is going to consult President Jonathan. I said, ‘please when you see him, tell him I am very sorry, I am wiser now’.

The system is a problem. Now, why did I mention President Jonathan? It takes a lot particularly in Africa to lose an election and leave, he did that.”

While expressing his support for the elevation of electoral reforms, including the electronic transmission of election results, Bello El-Rufai added that if there is any truth to the rumour of an electoral amendment that would allow people to vote without a voter’s card, he would vote against such a proposal.

Two people confirmed dead as hotel fence collapses in Kwara

Two people have been confirmed dead following the collapse of the fence of the Kwara Hotel, in Ilorin.

It was gathered that the fence at the hotel premises was under construction before it collapsed and killed two workers.

One other person who was among those buried under the rubble of the collapsed fence was said to have been injured from the incident.

While those injured have been taken to the Sadiku Hospital at Unity Road for medical care, the others were pronounced dead on arrival.

Sources privy to the incident said several workers at the hotel premises had raised fears and concerns over the state of the structure and the quality of work being done by the contractor, Craneburg Construction Company.

However, despite these concerns, the management completely ignored the warnings.

The source said, “The deaths of these workers are truly heartbreaking. This tragedy could have been avoided if proper safety measures had been in place — especially on a project of this scale.

We’re currently at the Janaza burial ground with the foreign contractors. It’s a deeply unfortunate situation,” the source stated.

Rafiu Ajakaye, the chief press secretary to the Governor of Kwara State, while confirming the incident said the affected fence is an old one separating the hotel from another facility nearby.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ajakaye said three workers were injured during the fence collapse.

“It is quite saddening. Yesterday, an old fence between the hotel and a nearby facility gave in. Three workers on duty were badly injured. One of them made it, but the remaining two didn’t survive it despite the first aid and the emergency response at the nearest hospital,” Ajakaye said.

He added that the family members of the victims have since been notified.

Days after meeting Tinubu, Osun APC sends message to Gov Adeleke

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has issued a warning the state governor, Ademola Adeleke.

The party’s warning to the Osun State governor comes days after Adeleke visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock, Abuja.

Adeleke was at the Presidential Villa alongside his older brother, Adedeji and his nephew, David.

This particular visit to the president has raised concerns over the possibility that the governor might be nursing defection plans in order to secure a second-term bid as governor of the state.

However, speaking at the Tinubu/Shettima campaign office in Osogbo, a chieftain of the ruling party, Timothy Owoeye said the governor would not be joining the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Owoeye also told Adeleke that the APC governorship ticket in Osun State is not for sale.

According to him, the Osun chapter of the party does not need Adeleke to win elections in the state.

I’m saying this categorically that APC tickets are not for sale. As a matter of fact, as of today, we don’t see Adeleke as a member or part of APC as a party. Let me be sincere with you, the APC in Osun is the party to beat

I want to tell you that if not because of the fear of the unknown that is disturbing the Adeleke family and the PDP, they wouldn’t have been showing the intention of coming to the APC,” Owoeye said.

He also said that the APC is strongly positioned to oust the PDP government led by Adeleke out of the state.

Oworye noted that there is no vacancy in the APC for PDP members and the governor to fill at the moment.

Atiku Demands Resit for Students Affected by Late night WAEC

Ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the conditions under which students in various parts of Nigeria were forced to sit for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, calling the situation a “national disgrace” and demanding a resit of the affected examination paper.

In a statement issued on Thursday following widespread reports of students writing their exams in dark and unfit environments across the country, Atiku expressed deep concern over what he called a “damning indictment of our systemic failure to uphold the most basic standards in public education.”

He wrote, “The recent report of students sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination in appallingly dark and unfit conditions across the country is nothing short of a national disgrace. That this outrage occurred just a day after the world marked International Children’s Day only deepens the shame.

This is not merely an unfortunate incident — it is a damning indictment of our systemic failure to uphold the most basic standards in public education.

It is unacceptable, unjustifiable, and utterly indefensible that in 2025, our children are forced to write critical national exams in pitch darkness like second-class citizens.”

Atiku also demanded the retake of the affected examination paper in all affected centres, warning that anything less would be a “grave injustice to the students whose futures hang in the balance.”.

This incident must awaken our national conscience,” he wrote. “It must compel immediate and sustained investment in critical social infrastructure, with education as the foremost priority — not in rhetoric but in tangible action.”

He further stated that while students share responsibility in preparing for examinations, the authorities failed in ensuring conducive conditions, and it would be “utterly unjust to allow students to suffer the consequences of such gross institutional negligence.”

Atiku concluded his statement by urging relevant authorities to establish and enforce minimum environmental and infrastructural standards for all high-stakes national examinations to prevent a recurrence.

We must never allow such a shameful scenario to repeat itself — not under our watch,” he wrote

A similar situation was also reported at Government Secondary School, Namnai, in Taraba State, where candidates narrowly escaped injury after their classrooms collapsed during a storm on Wednesday evening.

ObasEmpire reports that viral videos on Wednesday revealed candidates sitting for the 2025 WASSCE English Language examination late at night without electricity, using lanterns and mobile phone flashlights.

The West African Examinations Council, attributed the delay in the conduct of the 2025 English Language paper on heightened efforts to curb examination malpractice, particularly the leakage of question papers.

However, the National Association of Nigerian Students condemned WAEC for the delay calling the shift of the exam from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. “insensitive” and a “gross disregard for the safety and well-being” of candidates, especially in rural areas.

NANS also criticized WAEC’s internal security lapses, arguing that students should not be made to suffer for the body’s failure to prevent examination malpractice.

Trumps Warns Putin is ‘Playing with fire’ Amid Rising Tensions

President Donald Trump issued a stark warning about Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that Putin is “playing with fire” in a comment that has reignited discussions about U.S.-Russia relations. According to a report from The Hill, The provocative remark, made during a recent public appearance, reflects Trump’s ongoing focus on his past interactions with Putin and signals concern about Russia’s current geopolitical maneuvers. As global tensions simmer, Trump’s statement underscores the delicate balance of diplomacy and power on the world stage.

Trump, who has often spoken of his ability to maintain a working relationship with Putin, suggested that the Russian leader’s recent actions are pushing boundaries that could lead to serious consequences. While Trump did not specify which actions prompted his warning, analysts point to Russia’s ongoing military activities, energy policies, and assertive foreign policy as possible triggers. The comment comes at a time when U.S.-Russia relations remain strained, with issues like Ukraine, cybersecurity, and NATO’s expansion fueling discord.

During his presidency, Trump emphasized personal diplomacy, often citing his rapport with Putin as a means to stabilize bilateral ties. High-profile meetings, such as the 2018 Helsinki summit, showcased Trump’s preference for direct engagement over confrontation. However, his latest statement marks a shift in tone, suggesting that Putin’s current trajectory may be testing the limits of diplomatic goodwill. “He’s playing a dangerous game,” Trump added, hinting at the potential for escalation if tensions are not managed carefully.

The broader context of Trump’s remark includes ongoing global challenges. Russia’s role in Ukraine, its influence in energy markets, and its strategic partnerships with other nations have raised alarms in Western capitals. Some observers interpret Trump’s warning as a critique of the Biden administration’s approach, which has leaned heavily on sanctions and multilateral pressure. Trump’s comment may also foreshadow his foreign policy priorities, should he seek office again, emphasizing a blend of strength and negotiation.

As the international community watches closely, Trump’s words highlight the high stakes of U.S.-Russia relations. Whether Putin will heed the warning or continue on his current path remains uncertain, but the statement has sparked renewed debate about how best to navigate one of the world’s most critical geopolitical relationships.
