The Robbery Suspect Confesses the death of the Arise TV anchor

One of the suspects involved in the armed robbery attack at Unique Apartments, a 16-flat, four-storey building in the Katampe area of Abuja, Sani Sirajo, has confessed that he tried to stop Somtochukwu Maduagwu, the late Arise Television news anchor and producer, from jumping off the building during the incident.

According to him, he attempted to hold Somtochukwu—fondly known as Sommie—from falling off the building but was unable to sustain her weight.

The report claims that each of the armed robbers involved in the tragic operation was paid a large sum after the act that led to the death of the journalist and another individual

According to Arise TV, the arrested suspects confessed to the crime, and a white Honda CR-V belonging to one of the victims was recovered.

The suspects also confessed to stealing and driving away a white Honda CR-V belonging to one of the victims and shared ₦200,000 each from the proceeds of the crime.”

Details of the report also revealed that the suspects stole a car belonging to one of the victims.

Sirajo’s confession came after personnel of the Nigeria Police Force obtained statements from members of the robbery gang following their arrest.

Arise TV anchor jumped from storey building during robbery

Somtochukwu, popularly known as Sommie , who was also a lawyer and model, was said to have lost her life in the early hours of Monday, September 29, at her Katampe home. Her sudden death has left colleagues, friends and viewers in deep shock.

According to Arise TV presenter Ojy Okpe, she gathered from their Abuja correspondence that late Sommie jumped down from her apartment after she got information that 15 armed robbers had invaded their building.

The armed robbers were said to have moved from one apartment to another, dispossessing residents of their belongings. The police were reportedly alerted but failed to show up on time.

Said to have been terrified by the commotion from adjoining flats, late Sommie attempted to escape before the robbers reached her apartment. She jumped out of her window, sustaining severe injuries from the fall.

Sommie was then rushed to the Maitama District hospital but was initially left unattended to as the hospital staff demanded for a form of identification before they could commence treatment. She sadly lost her life while still at the hospital. The apartment security who put up a resistance with the robbers was also shot and he d!ed from the injury. He left behind a wife and a little son.

Left to mourn Sommie are her parents, siblings, friends, colleagues and others.

Benue Assembly suspends five members

The Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended five members for three sittings for tempering with the report on the activities of the Chairman, Otukpo Local Government Area, Maxwell Ogiri.

The members are, Shimawua Terna, Mathew Damkor, Cephas Dyako, Moses Egbodo and Isaac Echekliye, they are all members of the House Standing committee on Local Government, Security and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Recall that, the Chairman of the Local Government, Security and Chieftaincy Affairs Terna Shimawua, alongside the members of the committee were mandated by the house to investigate alleged misappropriation of local government funds and abuse of office by the chairman Otukpo Local Government, Maxwell Ogiri.

During the presentation of the report on the floor of the house, the chairman and members of the committee deviated from the real findings.

The House, dissatisfied with the report, constituted a five-member ad-hoc committee headed by Ipusu to investigate further and uncover the actual situation.

Accordingly, the house suspended the members of the entire committee for three sittings for covering the truth on the misappropriation, abuse of office and closure of the Legislative Chamber by the Otukpo Local Government Chairman to protect him from punishment.
