2027: ADC on fire – Kenneth Okonkwo

Former National Officer of the Labour Party, Kenneth Okonkwo, has claimed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is using intimidation tactics to disrupt opposition activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Okonkwo said the ADC has faced repeated attacks while holding meetings across several states.

ADC is on fire. The only thing is that we have an APC that is using every method to intimidate and scatter the plans of the opposition,” he said.

Okonkwo cited incidents in Kaduna, Lagos, and Ekiti States where ADC gatherings were allegedly dispersed by thugs acting under the supervision of security agencies.

He accused the APC of manipulating security institutions to frustrate opposition parties, contrary to provisions of the Electoral Act that mandate equal protection for all political parties.

Okonkwo expressed confidence that the ADC would form the next government, describing the APC as a party “already imploding.”

ADC is going to form the next government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We are strategizing, and we are going to beat this APC. They are already imploding because all these endorsements are just an amalgamation of sycophants,” he added.

Labour Party asks Senate to reinstate Senator Natasha, warns against abuse of law

The Labour Party (LP) has demanded the immediate reinstatement of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, following the expiration of her six-month suspension.

The call was contained in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by LP’s national publicity secretary, Tony Akeni.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March. In a letter dated August 28, she notified the National Assembly of her intention to resume on September 4, which she said marked the end of the suspension.

But in a response dated September 4, the acting clerk of the National Assembly said the suspension remained in force pending the outcome of her appeal before the Court of Appeal.

Reacting, LP said it had been informed of the position of a US diplomat on the face-off between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Kogi senator.

The party noted that the diplomat shared a letter written by Fatoumatta Njai, a Gambian lawmaker and member of the Pan-African Parliament, condemning the Senate’s defiance of a subsisting court order that nullified Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension.

In the view of the American diplomat, the ‘abuse of the rule of law by the Nigerian senate against a subsisting court judgment which, since July 4, 2025, nullified the suspension of Senator Natasha and implicitly ordered her unhindered return to the senate, is shameful for your country’,” LP quoted.

Njai, in her letter dated September 9, urged the Nigerian Senate to “immediately reinstate” Akpoti-Uduaghan, warning that defiance of court orders undermines democracy in West Africa.

Security Operatives Look Away As LP Agent Is Slapped During Lagos LG Poll

There was tension on Saturday at Polling Unit 027, Yaya Abatan, Ogba, in the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State, as aggrieved loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC) assaulted a Labour Party (LP) agent, Spencer Dominic, during the local government elections.

Naija Nreports that the incident occurred shortly before APC chairmanship candidate, Usman Akanbi Hamzat, arrived at the polling unit to cast his vote.

Trouble reportedly started when the LP agent positioned himself behind electoral officials, allegedly to observe and confirm voter identities

According to eyewitnesses who spoke with Daily Trust, some APC supporters objected to his presence at that spot and ordered him to move. When he resisted, they pounced on him, dragged him, and slapped him in full view of security operatives, who reportedly stood by and took no action.

The scuffle was later de-escalated by concerned individuals who intervened to restore order at the unit.

Speaking after the attack, Spencer Dominic told Daily Trust that he was merely trying to uphold electoral integrity.

He explained, “I stayed behind the electoral officers, watching the people coming to vote to confirm their voter cards. When the chairman came and asked me to leave the place, I said no, that I needed to view the voter cards of the people.

Then, the APC people started beating me.”

In defence of the incident, a chieftain of the APC, Gbenga Adebowale, accused the LP agent of violating polling unit protocol.

Adebowale said, “The chairman of the council is the existing chairman, and by virtue of that, if he wants to join the queue, nobody should question him.

You, as an agent, are now asking him for his voter card? That is unacceptable. There are rules guiding agent conduct, you are not supposed to be behind the electoral officers. That position can incite trouble.”

The election across Lagos State was generally marked by low voter turnout, with many polling units witnessing sparse participation

Atiku Criticizes Lawmakers For Reducing Salaries Instead Of Allowances

Obasempire reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, has criticized the House of Representatives members for their decision to reduce their salaries by 50 percent for six months.

The salary reduction is intended to support the federal government’s efforts to tackle the increasing cost of foodstuffs and ease the hardship faced by Nigerians.

The motion was approved and assigned to the committees on Humanitarian Affairs, Finance, and Budget for implementation.

With each member contributing N300,000 to a collective fund, the legislative body will provide N108 million monthly to the Federal Government, totaling N648 million over six months.

However, Atiku Abubakar criticized this decision on X, suggesting that lawmakers should cut their allowances rather than their salaries.

Atiku argued that the country can no longer afford to borrow to finance governmental irresponsibility.

He wrote, “The demons are in allowances and not salaries. There’s too much wastage and prioritisation of non-essential expenditures. What we want is an across the board cut in expenses pork. We can no longer afford to borrow to fund irresponsibility in government.”
