Portable Attacked At Home Over Performance Dispute, Shares Police Report

Obasempire reports that controversial Nigerian artist Portable was reportedly attacked early Monday at his residence in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.

The assault allegedly arose from Portable’s supposed failure to fulfill a performance commitment for which he had been paid.

A video circulating on social media captured the chaotic scene as the artist engaged in a heated altercation with individuals believed to be linked to the event organizers.

The footage showed Portable strongly protesting their attempt to enter his home and vandalize his property.

Amid the turmoil, Portable could be heard making bold threats, resolute not to let the alleged attackers prevail.

Following the incident, the artist shared a police report detailing the seriousness of the situation and the injuries sustained during the conflict.

Portable conveyed his emotions in a cryptic statement, hinting at feelings of betrayal and a sense of having enemies all around him.

Despite the adversity, he maintained a resilient spirit, stating,”these people did to me a very bad thing, but I am happy they are not God.”

Wizkid Responds After Backlash Over Cryptic “Una Papa!” Post

Obasempire reports that Nigerian music star Wizkid has finally responded after facing significant criticism for his recent post.

The Starboy took to his verified accounts on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram to share a cryptic message reading “Una papa!” which means “Your father!”

The post was accompanied by several photos of himself.

While some of Wizkid’s fans appeared to accept the comment, others quickly voiced their anger and disapproval.

One X user, @ArewaAdebukolaa, fired back at Wizkid, saying “Your papa too… this midget will just wake up, smoke igbo, and tweet rubbish. Your papa papa x10. Werey ni e nii?”

In response to the criticism, Wizkid took to his X account today, August 16th, to share a message of love and subtly addressed those who had attacked him.

Wizkid wrote, “Don’t get it twisted, love is a beautiful thing!”

He added, “Awon werey kan Lon correct daddy won,” which roughly translates to “Only mad people correct their fathers.”

Burna Boy Launches Football Academy With Centers In Major Cities

Obasempire reports that Nigerian Afrobeat star Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, has established the ‘Burna Boy Football Academy’ with training centers in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.

The academy aims to provide a setting where future African footballers can master the basics of the game, alongside education, discipline, and skill development, to succeed both on and off the field.

According to the academy’s website, the program caters to players aged 4-15 and 16-21, offering training sessions three times a week, with each session lasting two hours.

The academy’s website also revealed that it has formed partnerships with several prominent football clubs, including Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, and Brighton from the English Premier League, as well as Watford from the Championship and Scottish teams Hearts and Hamilton.

“We strive to engage parents in sports education, emphasising its importance alongside academic pursuits,” they said.

Family Requests Suspension Of Mohbad’s Anniversary Celebrations For Privacy

Obasempire reports that the relatives of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, have requested that groups and individuals intending to mark the first anniversary of his death postpone their plans.

This appeal was made in a statement signed by Monisola Odumosu, a member of the family’s legal team.

The family conveyed their wish to grieve privately, without elaborate ceremonies that could impact their emotional well-being.

“It has come to the attention of the Aloba family that some organisations have been planning to celebrate the first anniversary of the death of our late son and singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad). The Aloba family wishes to appeal to such interest groups to suspend such ideas.

“The late singer is yet to be buried. As such, the family would wish the public to join them in prayers at his anniversary rather than organise any elaborate event that will affect their emotions.”

The family also expressed concern that some individuals and organisations might be planning to use Mohbad’s memory for commercial purposes.

This is as they appealed to them to seek approval from the family before proceeding with such a plan.

“It is no longer news that some individuals and organisations have been planning to carry out events to commemorate the late singer’s death.

“We will appeal to such persons and organisations to seek proper approval from the family before going on with such plans. The Aloba family would not wish the goodwill of their illustrious son to be employed for commercial purposes,” the statement added.

The family has urged individuals and organisations to respect their wishes and join them in prayers during this difficult time.

Mohbad, a former record label signee of Marlian Music owned by Naira Marley, died on September 12 at the age of 27, with the circumstances surrounding his death sparking controversy on social media.

CDQ Drops First Single Of The Year Featuring Serenità

Obasempire reports that CDQ, the Nigerian rapper, has launched his first single of the year, titled ‘One Night’.

The rapper unveiled the track on all streaming services in the early hours of Friday.

In the caption, CDQ mentioned that the song reveals “the secret of Davido and Chioma’s romance.”

In ‘One Night’, the rapper collaborates with South African artist Serenità. The track was produced by Lehandro Beats.

“I ain’t never seen a church girl so pretty/ If I had to say the truth ma I swear I wanna hit it/ Real life shit this is not a lyrics, Wanna look into your eyes every day and say we did it.”

CDQ earlier said he would reveal “secret” information about Davido and his wife Chioma.

Born Sodiq Yusuf, CDQ rose to prominence after putting out ‘Nowo E Soke’, a 2015 hit single, wherein he featured Wizkid.

He has since then established himself as a popular figure in the Nigerian music industry.

In November 2016, the rapper launched his own record label N.S.N.S — a short form for No Struggle No Success Entertainment.

In December 2022, CDQ revealed he was hospitalised for a life-threatening ailment.

Onyeka Onwenu Dies After Collapsing At Lagos Birthday Party

Obasempire reports that tragedy befell on Tuesday night when Nigeria’s legendary singer and songwriter, Onyeka Onwenu, fainted and passed away shortly after her performance at a birthday celebration in Lagos.

In a surprising development, the celebrated artist, fondly referred to as the ‘Elegant Stallion,’ reportedly died at Reddington Hospital in Lagos after collapsing at a private event.

Sources close to the family revealed that Onwenu was at a friend’s birthday party and had just performed on stage. After finishing her set, she returned to her seat and abruptly collapsed.

Emergency responders were promptly called, and she was transported to the hospital in Victoria Island, where she was later declared deceased. The exact cause of death remains unconfirmed.

The source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said: “It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli of Emzor Pharmaceuticals this night and after performing, she slumped. She was taken to Reddington Hospital but couldn’t make it.”

Onwenu, born on May 31, 1952, was a multifaceted artist whose career spanned over four decades. She was not only a renowned singer and songwriter but also an actress, journalist, and politician.

Onwenu’s music, which blended genres including highlife, reggae, and pop, often addressed social and political issues. Some of her most popular songs include “One Love,” “Iyogogo,” and “Ekwe.”

Beyond her musical career, Onwenu was known for her political activism and involvement. She served as the chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture. She was appointed Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Women Development.

In March this year, Onwenu had revealed that she was putting together a film that will focus on her experiences spanning several decades in the music industry. She had expressed her excitement to share her personal story of how Nigerian music has changed over time.

She had also talked about plans to collaborate with up-and-coming musicians to release her iconic songs in a compilation of rebranded songs expected to be released later this year.

It is not known yet if the feature documentary or remix of her iconic songs had been concluded before her death.

‘Ka Esi Le Onye Isi Oche’, a song by Ejeagha, started to gain widespread popularity earlier this month after Jotter adopted the soundtrack for his hilarious dance moves.

The dance moves involve two or more people facing opposite directions and walking towards each other. They then meet at a point where they do the funny leg dance before one starts chasing after the other while a part of the chorus “Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo” is played in the background.

Jotter’s first clip of the project, which was shared on Instagram on July 5, has fetched nearly one million likes — as of July 21. Similar footage posted on TikTok has been viewed over 16 million times.

The song has also been recreated nearly 20,000 times on TikTok with many Nigerians, including celebrities, joining the challenge.
