IMN Denies Killing Police Officers In Clash With Security Forces

Obasempire reports that the banned Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites, has refuted allegations that they killed two police officers during a confrontation with security forces.

The two officers were brutally slain on Sunday after a violent clash between the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command and IMN members.

The command while reacting to the incident, accused the Shi’ite sect of an “unprovoked attack” on its men at Wuse junction by a traffic light.

The command said the group attacked its men with stones, wielding machetes, locally made explosives, and knives.

However, the IMN, while speaking with The Whistler, denied the allegations by the police.

A leader of the IMN group, Abdullahi Musa who led the procession on Sunday in Abuja, told the publication that the police command opened fire on its unarmed” members during a procession, which he described as “religious” observed by Shi’ites across the world.

He insisted that police officers in plain clothes killed their colleagues so they could put the blame on them.

Musa explained that the two-day trek which kicked off on Saturday, was aimed at joining its members around the globe in solidarity against the brutal assassination of Imam Husain (AS), a revolutionary leader who sacrificed his life fighting against injustice, tyranny and oppression.

Musa revealed that contrary to the narratives of the police, its members had duly informed the public, through a statement and the FCT Police Command through a letter, issued by its lawyer before embarking on the procession.

He said, “Before we embarked on this procession, we had issued a statement since Friday, to let the public know that the usual Arbaeen trek is going to take place on Saturday and Sunday, and this statement was published

“The commissioner of police was invited and he was fully aware. Before we came in the morning, they had asked us where we were starting the procession and we told them. We decided to divide ourselves into two. The initial plan was to take off from Banex so that people could converge at the Wuse market bridge.

“Unfortunately, early in the morning on Sunday, the police went and dropped six vans of fully armed policemen at Banex and Berger under the bridge. When we saw this, we decided to change routes, so we would not have issues with them because we know they usually attack us.

“If police came to protect you, would they come with armoured tanks and boxes of ammunition? Will they come to protect you during a procession, is that how they do? because this is not the first time, they always attacked us.

“We decided to go to Wuse Zone 3 junction and then trek to Wuse market, but before we arrived at Wuse market, we heard that they had arrested some of our brothers and sisters.

“We didn’t talk to them, but as we arrived at Wuse market, Wallahi, I swear to God almighty, I was in the front, and we were holding placards and citing in Arabic, ‘Imam Husain, we are with you and we are matching in solidarity’ and carrying flag signifying ‘Ashura’ and these people opened fire, not even tear-gas.

“They opened fire with live ammunition, I was there, and everybody started running. So, I am not aware of all these allegations they are saying that our people killed police. How? Were we armed? We were not armed. We were only carrying placards. Is a placard a weapon? If the people knew that we were armed, they would not face us.”

In  a further response to the police report of razing police vehicles, Musa said, “Today we found out that there is a brother who was arrested by Policemen in mufti, looking like Agberos (touts). It is the policemen in mufti that set those vehicles ablaze.

“If there is any officer that was killed, he was killed by his fellow officers in mufti or uniforms. We do not kill anyone, but advocate for a better life for Nigeria.”

Sowore Condemns Nigerian Disruption Of South African Businesses In Retaliation

Read more: Nigerians Criticize FCT Police Spokesperson’s Call For Public Appreciation

Following a recent “order war” started by South Africans, Nigerian social media users triggered a rise in taxi fares in South Africa by coordinating ride-hailing drivers to gather at certain locations.

This response came after South Africans used X (formerly Twitter) to brag about intentionally wasting Nigerian drivers’ time by placing and canceling ride requests.

Many Nigerians escalated their reaction, targeting other South African businesses, including restaurants that accept payments on arrival, in a coordinated effort to disrupt operations as retaliation.

In a post on his X account, Sowore criticized the actions of Nigerians, labeling ‘Cyber Xenophobia’ as dangerously offensive as both mental and physical Xenophobia.

He wrote, “I totally condemn the cyber war on South African internet infrastructure by a group of netizens from ‘Nigeria’ disrupting online transportation services for a majority of fellow Africans because of the misconduct of a few South Africans. It is unacceptable, and I want it stopped henceforth. “Cyber Xenophobia” is as dangerously reprehensible as mental and physical Xenophobia! There are millions of South Africans, as well as Nigerians in the diaspora, that would be adversely affected by this terrible conduct.”

Obasempire reports that Cristiano Ronaldo, the renowned global football star, has set a new standard with the debut of his YouTube channel, amassing 17.1 million subscribers within just 24 hours of launch—as of this report.

Ronaldo, who unveiled the channel on Wednesday afternoon, experienced a remarkable surge of 10 million subscribers in under 12 hours.

This achievement is particularly notable when compared to the growth rate of other prominent YouTubers; for example, it took YouTube phenomenon MrBeast 132 days to reach a comparable milestone.

The channel, featuring 19 videos so far, provides an insider’s view of Ronaldo’s life off the football field. The content prominently includes his family, such as his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, and his son, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr.

The most popular video to date, titled “Discover EVERYTHING about us. Who will win?”, highlights this personal side, which appears to strongly connect with his audience.

From the outset, Ronaldo’s YouTube channel shattered records, gaining one million followers within 90 minutes of its launch—a world record for the quickest accumulation of subscribers in such a brief period.

By Thursday, the subscriber count had grown to an impressive 16.7 million, demonstrating Ronaldo’s widespread appeal across various demographics.

The channel’s followers, known as “SIUUUbscribers” after Ronaldo’s signature “Siuuuu” goal celebration, have helped make it one of the fastest-growing YouTube channels globally.

However, this success comes at a time when Ronaldo’s on-field performance has faced challenges. As he nears his 40th birthday in February, his stint at Saudi club Al-Nassr has been marked by frustration over disappointing results and a lack of trophies.

His discontent was evident when he declined to accept the Saudi Super Cup silver medal following a 4-1 defeat to Al-Hilal.

Despite these obstacles, Ronaldo continues to excel off the pitch, particularly in Riyadh, where his enthusiasm for various interests is reflected in his latest digital venture.

The content on Ronaldo’s channel showcases his diverse interests, featuring discussions on topics such as Rafael Nadal versus Novak Djokovic and Boxing versus UFC, appealing to a broad audience of sports enthusiasts.

Ronaldo’s digital dominance is further highlighted by his impressive social media presence. With 636 million followers on Instagram, 107 million on Facebook, and 112.6 million on X (formerly Twitter), he remains one of the most influential figures across all platforms.

His digital reach, coupled with his YouTube success, solidifies his position as a leading figure in global media.

Financially, the YouTube channel could significantly enhance Ronaldo’s already substantial earnings. With YouTube paying creators between $2 to $12 per 1,000 views, Ronaldo could potentially earn millions from ad revenue alone, joining the ranks of top YouTubers like MrBeast.

This new income source adds to his estimated $260 million fortune, as reported by Forbes in March 2024.

In addition to his digital endeavors, Ronaldo’s wealth is further supported by a lifetime deal with Nike and his CR7-branded ventures, including clothing, accessories, hotels, and gyms.

His contract with Al-Nassr is valued at $200 million per season, further cementing his status as one of the highest-earning athletes globally.

Ronaldo’s shift from the football field to digital platforms marks a significant transition, showcasing his ability to extend his brand across various sectors.

As he continues to break records both on and off the field, Ronaldo remains a formidable presence in the world of sports and beyond.

Nigerians Criticize FCT Police Spokesperson’s Call For Public Appreciation

Obasempire reports that Nigerians have condemned the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh, for urging citizens to acknowledge the Force’s efforts.

In a statement on X on Thursday, Adeh noted that although the Force risks their lives to safeguard the welfare and property of Nigerians, they continue to face criticism.

“I’ve come to realise that police work is often a thankless job. Despite all we do, including risking our lives, we still face criticism from the public. Our officers are out there day and night, ensuring the safety of citizens, yet their efforts often go unnoticed,” her statement reads.

Her statement has, however, attracted severe criticism from Nigerians, with many alleging that the Force does not deserve commendation because of the prevalent corruption in the Force.

Chronicle NG highlights some of the reactions of Nigerians to Nigerians to the police PRO’s statement.

Tobi Akinbo J, “Madam, it is God that protects Nigerians, not police. You protect politicians; it’s understandable. You can’t reap thank you where you didn’t sow.”

Sayeen Mainamdu: “Madam police are only protecting politicians, while citizens are paying police to protect them, so nothing comes for free.”

Tonye Barcanista, “Maybe you will be appreciated when you focus on your real job instead of desperately seeking social media fame and validation.”

Prince Somorin Osifeso, “Madam, you knew the job before you applied for it. If you are after a cushy, safe job, then go apply to be a librarian. Only have to worry about paper cuts.

“I want selfless warriors in the police department, not people that want the public to kneel down and lick their boots.”

Maetrix Ogbu, “If it’s written in your job description on your employment letter that service users ‘must’ show police personnel’s appreciation after police services are rendered, then you may have a case.

“If it isn’t written on your job description, I am afraid to inform you that you deserve to be given a query for demanding appreciation of any kind from service users in order to carry out your fully paid jobs. Remember, you willingly accepted your job offer.”

Ifedolapo, “Well, I understand how you feel about not being acknowledged for your efforts, but you can only speak for a few good police officers, as the majority of bandwagons are the ones bringing down the efforts of the few good ones. Something has to be done to change the narrative.”

Henry Nwokedi, “Most of the officers on the road don’t know their jobs; they are only out there to make money from motorists. I don’t trust the Nigerian police, and to the best of my knowledge, they are not working or risking their lives for me; rather, they are busy risking their lives for the politicians.”

Joy Arewa queen, “The rogue policemen overwhelm the few good ones. The Nigerian police has to do a lot of PR to clean up its image.”

Nsuhoreidem Nyongidem, “I understand that receiving a salary at the end of the month is a way of recognising your hard work and dedication. It can be frustrating when someone receives a salary without fulfilling their responsibilities.”

Myke Peters, “The police force is ideally a noble profession and should be respected; however, the police force in Nigeria is nothing to write home about. You guys should work on yourselves first, please.”

E. Okaraka, “I’m very surprised this is coming from a learned person like you. If you’re doing well and discharging your duty well without exploitation and corruption, Nigerians that I know are very appreciative, but you rather work for our common enemies (politicians)”

Yusuf Lateef Onisona, “The responsibility of law enforcement goes beyond ensuring safety; it also involves maintaining trust with the community. Go by public poll or opinion, Nigerian police lack integrity and general acceptance.”

Mazi Joe Abuchi: “In Nigeria, the police is useless compared to other countries. In European countries, the police are respected like no tomorrow because of the law and order, unlike the Nigerian police out there collecting bribes here and there. So no regards to you people.”

Imiegha_moses, “But they get paid extra through extortions and illegal raids, which results in forced bail bonds. Don’t pretend you don’t know these things occur on a daily basis. The Nigerian citizens will not hesitate to cast their ‘no’ votes in a police referendum if it ever happens.”

Christian Girl Vomits Suspicious Substances After Forced Conversion To Islam

Obasempire reports that a concerning update has emerged from Damaturu, Yobe State, showing that a young Christian girl, who was kidnapped and converted to Islam, regurgitated suspicious substances in church.

The Centre for Justice on Religious and Ethnicity in Nigeria states that the girl, Rejoice Markus, was rescued from the Damaturu Emir’s residence and taken to the Anglican Church for spiritual cleansing, where she expelled “demonic substances” introduced through her mouth and genitalia.

Rev. Kallamu Musa Ali Dikwa, Director General of the Centre, claimed that the victims’ placentas are utilized for ritualistic practices. Bishop Audu Yohanna, the Anglican Church Bishop and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) chairman in Yobe State, confirmed that the girl regurgitated in the church office during prayers.

The Centre has issued a deadline to the captors, demanding the release of all other prisoners, as there are currently 30 cases of abductees under police investigation, according to CAN. This event highlights the ongoing injustices and suffering faced by marginalized Nigerians, especially in the Northeast region.

The Centre has urged President Bola Tinubu to address the kidnapping of young Christian girls, forced conversions to Islam, and coerced marriages.

Rev. Dikwa asserted that Muslims are using the placentas of forcibly converted underage Christian girls for ritual purposes.

He noted that when Rejoice Markus was rescued and brought to the church for spiritual cleansing, she regurgitated the substances given to her. Other victims, including Elizabeth Bitrus, Deborah Yusuf, Damarin Paul, and Linda Usman, are facing similar issues.

The Centre has called on President Bola Tinubu to tackle the kidnapping of young Christian girls, forced conversions to Islam, and coerced marriages, setting a 48-hour deadline for the release of the abducted girls, after which Christian youths will take action.

CAN Secretary in Yobe State, Rev. Ibrahim Kure Abagu, confirmed that 30 cases of abducted Christian girls are being handled by the police. He also noted that no non-Muslims are employed or work in the Ministry of Islamic Religious Affairs.

The report underscores the persistent issue of kidnapping and forced conversion of young Christian girls in Northern Nigeria, with the Centre and CAN urging government action to address this problem.

Most Read: Benitez’s Harsh Remark On Carragher Delights Overlap Panel On Podcast

Obasempire reports that Rafa Benitez had the entire Overlap panel in laughter after delivering a harsh jab at his former player Jamie Carragher during the latest episode of the podcast.

Benitez is currently jobless after being dismissed by Celta Vigo following a 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid last season, having taken over in 2023.

Before his stint in La Liga, the Spaniard had returned to the Premier League as Everton manager, where he was in charge for six and a half months before being terminated in January.

Benitez took over an impressive squad from Carlo Ancelotti, which had been second in the Premier League at Christmas the season before the former Liverpool manager’s arrival.

However, after pushing both James Rodriguez and Lucas Digne out of the club, and bolstering the team with players like Salomon Rondon and Andros Townsend, his tenure at Everton was unlikely to endure.

Despite his recent challenges, Benitez remains one of the most esteemed coaches of his era, with his time at Liverpool especially notable.

In his latest appearance on the Stick to Football podcast, presented by Sky Bet, Benitez clarified that his time at Everton wasn’t as poor as many believe.

“I have some Everton fans say ‘We saved the club’ because we didn’t spend the money. So if we spent the money it would have been even worse,” he claimed.

On the podcast, Benitez also talked through the changes he has had to deal with as his career has progressed, particularly with the changes to the transfer market in the modern era.

While explaining the huge market inflation managers now deal with, Benitez couldn’t help but through a dig at Carragher.

“If you want to buy Gerrard & Carragher this time, you pay £200m. £180m for Gerrard and £20m for Carragher,” Carragher joked.

The 64-year-old’s cheeky dig made Gary Neville, Jill Scott, and Roy Keane completely lose it.

Carragher played under Benitez for the entirety of his six-year spell from 2004-2010 and started the infamous 2005 Champions League final which saw Liverpool come from 3-0 down to defeat AC Milan.
