EPL: 3 teams qualify for Champions League after Europa final

Three teams have now confirmed their places in next season’s Champions League.

Tottenham Hotspur became the latest club to claim their spot, following their 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

Although they are likely to finish in 17th place, Spurs will compete in Europe’s elite competition thanks to the victory.

Brennan Johnson proved to be the hero in Bilbao, as he forced in the only goal of the match in the first half.

Tottenham will now join Liverpool and Arsenal as the only Premier League sides to be assured of Champions League spots for now.

Three more teams will qualify on the last day of the campaign.

Manchester City, Chelsea, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest are the teams that will be hoping to represent England.

Oyo State Monarchs Kick, Reject Move To Make Alaafin Permanent Chairman Of Traditional Council

In a joint statement issued in Ibadan on Monday, the leaders described the move as a distortion of tradition and a threat to the unity of royal institutions in the state.

Traditional rulers and influential stakeholders from Ibadanland and Ogbomosoland have firmly rejected a legislative proposal by the Oyo State House of Assembly that seeks to make the Alaafin of Oyo the permanent chairman of the state’s Council of Obas and Chiefs.

The statement was endorsed by Mogajis, Baales, monarchs, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), the Ibadan Compounds Peace Initiative (ICPI), prominent natives of Ibadanland, and representatives of the Soun Ruling Houses in Ogbomoso.

The proposed amendment to the chieftaincy law, which passed second reading in the House last Thursday, would install the Alaafin as the permanent head of the council.

In the event of his absence, the Olubadan of Ibadanland would chair the council, followed by the Soun of Ogbomoso if both are unavailable.

But opponents argue the law undermines long-standing tradition and fairness.

The chairmanship of the council has always been rotational and should remain so to reflect equity among all royal stools in the state,” the statement read.

President of the Ibadan Mogajis, Chief Asimiyu Ariori, and ICPI Coordinator, Nurudeen Akinade, warned that the proposed amendment risks inflaming tensions, urging lawmakers to preserve the rotational leadership model as a symbol of inclusion and mutual respect.

They stressed their opposition was not personal, noting that the late Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, earned their admiration through his respectful engagement with other traditional institutions.

We respected and honoured Oba Adeyemi’s age and wisdom. He spent over 50 years on the throne without undermining Ibadan people,” they said.

The current Alaafin should tread softly.”

House Republicans propose $5 billion private school Vouchers

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans want to set aside up to $5 billion a year for scholarships to help families send their children to private and religious schools , an unprecedented effort to use public money to pay for private education.

The proposal, part of a budget reconciliation bill released Monday, would advance President Donald Trump’s agenda of establishing “universal school choice” by providing families nationwide the option to give their children an education different from the one offered in their local public school. Nearly all households would qualify except those making more than three times the local median income.

Supporters of private school vouchers say they want to give families assigned to low-performing schools more choices.

“Giving parents the ability to choose the best education for their child makes the (American Dream) possible,” said Republican Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy , who sponsored a similar proposal in the Senate.

The program would be funded by donors who could contribute money or stock. In turn, they would receive 100% of the contribution back in the form of a discount on their tax bills. It would allow stock holders to avoid paying taxes that would be levied if they donated or transferred the stock.

Critics decried the proposal, saying it would aid the wealthy at the expense of the public school systems that serve the overwhelming majority of students. They said it would set up a tax shelter allowing savvy investors to make money under the guise of a donation.

All of this comes as the Trump administration downsizes the Education Department and cuts resources to public schools, including $1 billion in mental health grants and funding for teacher training .

“This is a significant threat,” said Sasha Pudelski of AASA, the School Superintendents Association. She added that states that have voucher programs often end up assisting families that were already paying for private school. “It’s opening the door even wider to what has already plagued voucher programs around the country, which is rampant waste, fraud, and abuse.”

Similar tax-credit scholarship and private school voucher programs have proliferated in red-leaning states like Texas, which just passed a $1 billion program. Public school advocates worry the programs hurt enrollment and per-pupil funding, ultimately leaving fewer resources for families that choose public schools.

Pinnick Asserts Eguavoen Has No Godfather, Urges Players To Sacrifice

Obasempire reports that former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick, has insisted that interim head coach of the Super Eagles Augustine Eguavoen has no godfather.

Pinnick also urged players to have the mindset of ‘wanting to die for their country’.

He spoke following Eguavoen’s recent return to the Super Eagles on an interim basis.

Recall that the NFF appointed Eguavoen as interim coach of the Super Eagles last month after failing to reach a final agreement with German coach Bruno Labbadia.

Eguavoen was given the task to lead the Super Eagles in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda in September.

When asked about Eguavoen having a godfather, Pinnick told Arise News: “Eguavoen is absolutely nothing, not like that. If you remember the Shuaibu Amodu time, as a technical director, even in major teams in global football, a technical director takes charge when there is a vacuum in the coaching crew.
“That is what happened. Eguavoen is still the technical director of the Nigerian Federation. If it was someone else, that person would have taken charge.

“I believe that it is more about the players, not even the coach. The players should look at that green-white-green flag, should look at that emblem and say “I want to die for Nigeria.”
